On any given night, Silk can have up to 1,400 club goers filling the multi-level club with private cabana style VIP suites on the main floor and mezzanine level. There is an expansive Outside Patio area catering to those who want to smoke or enjoy the night air. Up to 75 people can fit on the patio throughout its cozy couch seating. The club also features two large dance floors and six bars, all catering to different guests. There is the Ladies’ Bar, Men’s Bar, Main bar and Side bar all on the main level. The Mezzanine features additional VIP suites that even let you choose the color lighting theme as you wish. And as you walk in, the enormous fiber optic fountain chandelier can’t help but make you stare in awe. It is actually the largest fiber optic chandelier of its kind in the world.
Okay, so we know Silk The Club is big and impressive, but does the atmosphere and music live up to its superficial shell? Having been to Silk when it first opened and then visiting just after the 1 year anniversary of its reopening, the changes are clearly apparent. Now catering to a more upscale crowd and featuring a wider variety of music and live performances, Silk The Club isn’t the young Hip Hop haven it used to be. You may notice from the many billboards along local freeways that Pechanga is doing a great job promoting Silk’s special events and working to draw bigger name artists, DJs and performers.
This past weekend, Silk’s Saturday line-up featured the winner of the Deckstar DJ Battle, D-Roc, who won the spot opening for 311 front man Nick Hexum. Admission for Silk started at $25 for this show as it was considered a “Special Event”. Normally, the cover charge is $20 and, like Vegas, they offer a $100 speed pass to the front of the line. We arrived earlier than most clubbers at 10pm after an amazing dinner at the Seafood Grotto, so the speed pass wasn’t really necessary. Once inside, you realize how huge Silk really is and how easy it is to find some comfortable lounge seating next to either dance floor. The plush leather couches made all the difference while waiting for Nick Hexum to come on stage which wasn’t until 12:30am. Though a bit later than we expected, his set was great, the energy was high and D-Roc continued spinning great dance music till close.
We were glad we gave Silk The Club a second shot. It really is a fun place to go dancing without the hassle of driving to Hollywood, fighting the lines and “lists”. Not just a bunch of newly 21-year-olds, Silk’s guests are anywhere from legal to late forties, all of whom just want to dance and have fun. The only thing that could have made the night better would have been some bottle service in a glowing VIP suite and a personal performance from Nick Hexum. But we can dream...
