Tesoro: A Tuscan Treasure in Old Town

Another great addition to the tasting rooms of Old Town Temecula is the Olson's Tesoro Winery. After purchasing 22 acres in Wine Country with the goal of opening up a Bed & Breakfast, Buzz and Kimberly Olson realized they had bountiful vineyards that might lend themselves to producing a few cases. Fast forward to today where Buzz and Kimberly have a popular tasting room in Old Town which hosts regular special events, a members-only clubhouse and plans for a sprawling Bed & Breakfast on Rancho California Road. We stopped by recently and tasted a few wines from this "Tuscan Treasure in Temecula.

Tesoro, which means "Treasure" in Spanish, Italian and Portugese has a wide range of wine offerings, many with catchy names like Dolce Innocenza, Tribordo (Syrah Port), Trinita (Super Tuscan) and the soon to be released El Terrace Roso. All of which were delightful. Especially the 2006 Petite Sirah that was slightly off dry and best served chilled. The Olson's have a lot of exciting plans in the works including some wines harvested from mission grapes from the Pechanga Indian Reservation planted in 1870. For $10, you will get 4 tastings with the one of the nicest winery logo souvenir wine glasses we've seen. If you join their wine club, you get amazing discounts of up to 60% off a case of wine and free tastings for four anytime you visit the tasting room.

If you happen to be on Old Town or want to continue wine tasting after wineries in Wine Country have closed, check out Tesoro Winery at 28475, Old Town Front Street, Suite B or online at www.tesorowines.com.
